New research out in the last month has sought to answer an age-old question - does beer last longer in can or bottle?

But the results aren't as obvious as you'd expect. Instead, beer type is also an important consideration, with the study showing that amber ale, in particular, was more affected over time by differences in packaging than IPA.

The theory is that the natural antioxidant properties of hops could explain some of this, with the hop-forward nature of IPA effectively acting as a preservative.
